Dr. Edward Magida, DMD

Dentist / Owner / Instructor

Since May 1999, Dr. Magida has taken many courses in orthodontic diagnosis and techniques. These courses are taught by many dentists who are recognized as leaders in their field. Dr. Magida will continue to take many more orthodontic courses since this is an area of dentistry that interests him very much. Cosmetic dentistry is also a major area of interest to Dr. Magida and he has taken courses taught by the best in the profession.

Since 1988, Dr. Magida has had the privilege of being on staff at several nursing and convalescent homes. Helping patients at these facilities with their dental problems has been a rewarding experience. Dr. Magida is a member of the Pennsylvania Dental Association, the Montgomery-Bucks Dental Society, the International Association for Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, as well as a member of both the Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine and the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Magida had the honor of achieving the status of Fellow in the Academy of General Dentistry. This fellowship was awarded during the summer of 2000 in Toronto. Dr. Magida received his bachelors degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania, a well regarded Ivy League institution . He received his Doctorate in Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine, a world renowned dental school. After graduating dental school, Dr. Magida was asked to participate in an extra one year program at the dental school. This program included a select group of newly graduated dentists, who upon completion of a very rigorous year long program, were awarded a Fellowship in Advanced General Dentistry.

Dr. Magida was then asked to remain at the dental school as a faculty member. He taught both undergraduate and graduate dental students for several years.

Jill Kaplan, RDH, BS HA

With a Bachelor of Science degree in Health Care Administration and Management from Westwood College and an Associate of Science degree in Expanded Functions Dental Assisting from Manor College, I have a vast knowledge of the dental industry and dental assisting. I have taught Dental Assisting at Lincoln Technical Institute and was a Program Director, Externship Coordinator and Instructor at Concorde Career College. I have been working in dentistry for over 30 years and love teaching and helping others find the balance and joy in the profession!

Bridget Hirth, CDA, TMJ

Instructor

I have been in the dental field for 10 years working at Newtown Dental Care. I earned my Certified Dental Assistant via Delaware Valley Academy of Medical and Dental Assistants and Dental Assisting National Board (DANB). I have additional certification as a TMJ Assistant through the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain and am trained in Obstructive Sleep Apnea care. I look forward to guiding my students so that they can be efficient, quality assistants and enjoy the dental field as much as I do!

Karen Barats, CDA, EFDA

Instructor

A graduate of Manor College, I have been a Certified Dental Assistant and an Expanded Function Dental Assistant for over 30 years! I have worked in general dentistry and all of the dental specialties, often training new personnel in the field. I enjoy working with the dentist, creating healthy and happy smiles and have found dental assisting to be a very rewarding position knowing that because of me, patients feel comfortable and can make knowledgeable dental choices.

Fern Magida, BA SLP

Admissions Representative

Fern Magida (wife of Dr. Ed Magida) was born and raised in Philadelphia. She graduated from Temple University with a BA in Speech and Language Pathology and completed additional coursework in Business Administration at Drexel University. Fern has been working part time for Newtown Dental Care since the start of the practice nearly 30 years ago. She is responsible for publicity, marketing and promoting Newtown Dental Care on social media. In addition, Fern works for her daughter’s business Dayle Music LLC where she creates and performs music programs for schools, camps, libraries and community centers. Fern and Ed Magida have two adult children and reside in Bucks County.

Lisa McHugh, BA PSY

Externship Coordinator

Lisa is the Office Manager of Newtown Dental Care and has been in the dental field since the Dark Ages! She has a BA in Psychology from The College of New Jersey and a NJ teaching certificate. As a dental assistant, office manager and prior dental assistant school instructor, Lisa is very familiar with all facets of dentistry and education. She has worked in the Yardley/Newtown area for 27 years and is connected with local dentists helping her arrange externships as well as job opportunities.
